Without fail, everyone knows our health is important, however, health isn’t as simplistic as being at the perfect weight and fitness level. On April 7th we have our annual World Health Day, which focuses on making sure everyone can access healthcare when needed. To Commemorate this occasion, we have made a guide looking out for you and your health and for you to remain in perfect shape.

Our physical health is undoubtedly important, yet there’s much more to a health check than maintaining the right weight and keeping fit. This Sunday is World Health Day, with a focus on ensuring everyone can access healthcare in their community when they need it. So, to mark the occasion, here’s our guide to how you could be looking after your well-being to stay in tip-top shape all around!

Mental health

Many of us have read the ‘one in four stat, yet we all have mental health, whether positive or in need of a boost. Taking care of our physical fitness and mental well-being often go hand in hand, so setting aside time for self-care and doing the things that make you happy can also motivate you to go to the gym or pound the pavement! Top up your mental health with our seven tips that can easily be incorporated into your day, and start noticing the difference.

A healthy diet

In recent years; studies have shown that a poor diet is more deadly than common causes of death (like smoking and drinking!) with it cutting short 20% of lives every year. Without a diet, a healthy lifestyle cannot be administered. Furthermore, research has shown that nearly 90% of British citizens are partaking in at least one unhealthy behaviour

Salt is one of if not the biggest threat in our diet and while some of us are eating too little fruit or grains, the NHS’ Eatwell guide advises people to eat at least five fruits and veg a day while having meals which are higher fibre, and more starch e.g potatoes, rice and bread. Also, in your diet; you should take in dairy daily e.g. milk, eggs and fish – choose unsaturated oils and drink 6-8 glasses of water every day.

Staff benefits

If you run your own business or run Human Resources, you may want to get your employee’s health checked, too! A happy, valued workforce is less off-duty and more productive. There is evidence that it will be higher, and good benefits such as company health insurance can play a big role in this.

Exercise

GPs and other health professionals increasingly refer patients to ‘social prescribing’ schemes, such as community gardening clubs and walking groups. If you’d like to become more active but don’t know where to start, ask your GP to practice what’s available.

Health insurance

Unlike auto or home insurance, private health insurance is not mandatory and many people believe they will never need it. But in fact, the number of diabetics has more than doubled in 20 years, and one in two of them will develop cancer. Once diagnosed, it’s too late to get insurance for faster treatment.

Other hidden health insurance benefits include confidential psychological support, speech therapy, recovery time, and discounted checkups. Some policies also provide access to digital GP services so you don’t always have to go to the office.
